Workshops:
Workshops:

Workshops: These take place in the summer, they include workshops that aim to reduce   offending, substance dependence and money management they are usually designed to      address the particular issues which trainees as a group are facing at that time.

Group work/training: This includes training around first aid, manual handling, fire safety, security courses, sexual health awareness, aware assist training; and  training promoting    individual rights i.e. legal rights, one parent    family rights etc.  It normally involves the programme getting a third party  facilitator. Group Work is assigned to meet the specific training/social  needs of the  of the trainees  currently attending the programme.

Team Building and Social skills Development: This includes group trips and team work, it provides trainees with the opportunity to partake in  activity’s outside the centre, in order to develop social interaction, it also gets trainees to interact as a whole rather than  individual groups.

Linkage work: We feel in order for our trainees to progress successfully we must support through accessing  a number of other services, including assessing local agency’s that offer a range of services to the community in Clondalkin within the detention centres and  education and training courses and college that trainees can access before during and after their time on the tower programme.

TOWER PROGRAMME TUTORS COMMENTS:

MARTIN COSTIGAN : WOODWORK TUTOR:  “I Think Woodwork can be very interesting for the   trainees as it helps improve concentration, Drawing Skills and DIY  skills.  It also increases their knowledge in  woodwork and I think they really enjoy it.  It can also help them to get employment and in further education”.

It also helps to improve literacy, it is more important to those with children at home as  they can bring the skills they have learned home, the certification gives them more confidence when looking for work .
